While not my taste in decor (check it out yourself) the Viceroy has gotten nothing but rave reviews from hipsters in polyester who flock to the poolside cabanas. The restaurant Whist was rated one of the "top 50 hotel restaurants" by Food & Wine magazine so it is on the wife's list to try, I'll keep you posted here. The Casa del Mar has always been one of my favorite buildings. After decades of neglect the new owner's really showed the love when they remodeled this distinguished historical building into a luxury hotel.Classic accommodations include an old world lobby with beautiful California mission style tile work. There is sushi restaurant named Catch off the varanda. A modified belvedere window provides diners and the bar with great views and sunsets. Of course there are all the amenities, Casa Spa, a pool, etc. Rooms usually start at $485 but it's best to check the latest rates as reservations can be hard to get.Casa Del Mar

Check out a suite, it comes with breakfast in bed for two. Stay in the tower and you get sweet views of the ocean, city, and mountains. If you're the adventureous type you'll appreciate the sting ray tabletops and tree trunk coffee tables in the presidential suite. In the Penthouse Restaurant Thomas Schoos and Michael Reidt team up for a celebration of the senses featuring a contemporary American Menu with global influences. The Huntley is close to the 3d Street Promonade and the Santa Monica Pier. You won't got wrong at $434 but call 310.394.5454 orand ask about the seasonal specials

An amazing luxury hotel. The accomodations have a crisp, clean Cape Cod feel. Fine dining restaurant One Pico serves steak or seafood entrées, and farm fresh salads with one of the best sunset views in the L.A. area. The Coast Cafe is on the boardwalk level with a more casual Cafe style. The Coast has had a recent remodel but I haven't been there since it reopened. I can say it was "on the list" before the remodel. Spa ONE is available as well as a workout room. They quote $725 but you can get specials here.

Loews Santa Monica Beach Hotel is a city resort with the Pacific Ocean on one side and the colorful city of Santa Monica on the other. Spacious accommodations in 342 rooms start at $399 during the summer. Not easily accessable from the beach side for non guests. Romantic dining at Ocean and Vine.A coveted location for celebrity sighting set close to 3d Street Promonade and the Santa Monica pier at around $399. Get their best rates here.

Built in 1933, The Georgian Hotel has a distinctive Art Deco architecture that makes it a beautifully classic ocean front hotel with a wonderful exclusive veranda on Ocean Ave. Tasteful rooms that were recently renovated. Also noteworthy as a pet friendly hotel. A variety of packages for less than $294 make the Georgian a tradition for many visitors. Their web site.
