More Venice Restaurants

My personal picks for food in Venice Beach. I've eaten in all of these restaurants and confidently recommend them.

[Jin Patisserie restaurant on Abbot Kinney]

Jin Patisserie

1202 Abbot Kinney Boulevard
Phone: (310) 399-8801
Bakery, Beverages, Coffee & Tea Shop. Cakes and chocolates as fine cuisine
Visit Jin Patisserie's web site to learn more about proprietor Kristy Choo's vision. Some things to remember; It's street parking only, $10 minimum on credit cards, most of the seating is outdoor, and not all the teas are in stock all the time. Otherwise the presentation is absolutely beautiful but the service is a bit spotty.

[Hal's Bar & Grill on Abbot Kinney]

Hal's Bar & Grill

1349 Abbot Kinney Boulevard
Phone: (310) 396-3105
Hal’s opened way back in 1987 when Abbot Kinney wasn’t exactly the heart of Venice. Hal, the maitre de of the old West Beach Cafe, never forgets a face and since he knows everyone in town Hal's had been a success since day one. Hal found a great space and has created an airy and spacious neighborhood restaurant with great art on the walls by prominent locals. Some things to remember; Not cheap but definitely reasonable, wide range of vegetarian options, valet parking can fill up so you could be stuck with street parking, live jazz on Sunday and Monday nights.
Hal's Menu & Special Events
[Axe restaurant on Abbot Kinney]

Axe

1009 Abbot Kinney Boulevard
Phone: (310) 664-9787
Axe is a low key place hidden by a couple of trees that serves local organic produce and supports earth-friendly businesses. A breezy and sparse space in which to enjoy unusually fresh fare. Take the Farmer's market plate, just the tastiest veggies of the season. While Axe is a great vegetarian choice the carnivor will be in hog heaven so to speak with crispy pork belly and hot mustard sauce. Pork chops and other meat dishes are usually available. The seafood entrees can range from wild stripped bass to to New Zeland red snapper. I've been going to Axe for close to 10 years and it's had it's ups and downs. Today it's as good as it's ever been. Some things to remember; Axe is minimalistically modern so the bench seating may not be comfortable to you. It can get hot inside in the summer but there is a patio. The vibe is very mellow and relaxed, being in a hurry may spoil your evening.

[Joe's restaurant on Abbot Kinney]

Joe's Restaurant

1023 Abbot Kinney Boulevard
Phone: (310) 399-5811
Joe Miller has put together an award winning casual California-French restaurant with a top notch wine cellar and a nice cool patio with a water wall. A seasonal menu will keep you surprised on each new visit. Affordable and a great value for the quality served. Recently awarded a Michelin star. Some things to remember; Joe's is small, dark and cozy, ideal for a romantic meal with someone special but they can pack the patio a little tight. Check out the menu for this week.

[restaurant on Abbot Kinney]

Lilly's French Cafe & Bar

1031 Abbot Kinney Boulevard
Phone: (310) 314-0004
Lilly's allows you to enjoy the warm feeling of a French Bistro with wine, beer and a martini bar. Try to book the patio which is cozy and quaint. The bacon & poached egg frisee salad is classic French and I liked the onion soup also. Lilly's is hard to beat for lunch with a reasonable $12 for an appitizer and an entree.
Check the Menu and book reservations at Lilly's!
[restaurant on Abbot Kinney]

Shima

1432 Abbot Kinney Boulevard
Phone: (310) 314-0882
Shima strives to be an unpretentious neighbourhood restaurant. The decor is modern, simple and fresh. Brown Rice Sushi and sashimi of course, all fresh. Thing to remember; Shima is hidden behind an orange colored fence with only a small paper sign on the gate, so it may be hard to find. Service at the bar is handled a waitress and not a chef. The service and food are great and come at a great(ly expensive) price. Some love it, some choke on the bill.

[restaurant on Abbot Kinney]

Tortilla Grill

1357 Abbot Kinney
Phone: (310) 581-9953
Classic Mexican food, California style. Large monster sized burritos at reasonable prices. The carnitas is lean and on the whole Tortilla grill takes a healthy approach to Mexican food. Recommended for take out since the dining area is a little shoody with chipped table tops and rickety chairs. Thing to remember; Quick cheap eats on Abbot Kinney. Always good, always busy.

[restaurant on Abbot Kinney]

Wabi-Sabi Sushi & Asian Cuisine

1637 Abbot Kinney Boulevard
Phone: (310) 314-2229
Sushi and Asian influenced fare where the attention to presentation is evident. The menu has a bit of everything, Californian cuisine with a Euro twist, Asian-Fusion dishes and a full sushi bar. Things to remember; Come around 5:30 pm during the week and enjoy a Happy Hour and half price menu items. Come early and you'll get better service, and almost no crowd, wait until later and Wabi Sabi packs them in. Menu & Reservations

[restaurant on Abbot Kinney]

Glencrest Family Restaurant

1146 Abbot Kinney Boulevard
Phone: (310) 399-9641
Good old family style BBQ. Glencrest specializing in BBQ Ribs, BBQ Chicken and is famous for their brisket. I recommend take out since there are only a couple of tables. With this kind of food you want to spread out and take your time. The food is even better when you can get BBQ sauce all over your face gnawing on dem bones. Thing to remember; Get lots of napkins

[restaurant on Abbot Kinney]

Abbot's Habit

1401 Abbot Kinney Boulevard
Phone: (310) 399-1171
The last great hippie hangout with decent coffee and a good variety of teas. Breakfast would be bleakfast without the long-haired, pierced and tatted counter people. They are probably a bigger wake up than an Espresso for the occassional turist who wanders in. Guest artists are offered exhibition space and there is a definate Bohemian, artiste vibe to the whole place. Things to remember; Not just for breakfast, sandwiches and wraps are on the lunch menu. The Abbot's Habit Pizza is located next door

[restaurant on Venice Beach Boardwalk]

Sidewalk Cafe

1401 Ocean Front Walk
Venice
Phone 310.399.5547
Better know for people watching that the food. But hey, you're in Venice, and the people are probably more interesting than anything you could ever put in your mouth. The street artists like to work the captive crowd just on the other side of the railing. Biggest patio on the Boardwalk and a full bar also. You'll have to order something to sit there, I suggest a bloody mary. Menu & Reservations

[restaurant on Venice Beach Boardwalk]

Venice Bistro

323 Ocean Front Walk
Venice
Phone 310.392.3997
Italian cusine and a patio on the Boardwalk make this one of my weekend favorites. If you hang out towards the afternoon you'll be entertained by the Venice Drum Orchestra. Join the club of regulars who come to celebrate the daily setting of the sun, in a gluttonus almost Roman manner. The service generally sucks and the beer is even less than cold sometimes, but I understand what a good crowd can do to multiple kegs and the help. I come anyway.
[restaurant on Venice Beach Boardwalk]

Fig Tree Cafe

429 Ocean Front Walk
Venice
Phone 310.392.4937
Figtree's has been on the Boardwalk since 1978. Breakfast in the morning and lunch service starts at Noon. The food at Figtree's is a notch above most other places, artisan breads, etc but it's also a bit pricier than most places on the boardwalk. Worth it in my opinion.
[restaurant on Venice Beach Boardwalk]

Big Dean's Cafe

1615 Ocean Front Walk
Santa Monica
Phone 310.393.2666
Not a typo. I put this in Venice because it is on the Boardwalk and It is a great people watching spot on the north end of the Boardwalk you could do worse than Big Dean's. The food is typical burger stand fare but on Wednesday they have some killer Chicken wings. Patios in front and back. Last time I was there you could still smoke which is becoming noteworthy in this town lately.
[restaurant on Venice Beach Boardwalk]

Jody Maroni Sausage Kingdom

2011 Ocean Front Walk
Venice
Phone310.822.5639
Jody started grilling sausages on the weekends over 20 years ago. Today he sells hundred of million of dollars worth of sausages worldwide! Oh, I should mention that the reason for his sucess, his sausages are the best!! A real Venice sucess story on the Boardwalk. The Sausage Kingdom is located by the Venice Pier.

[Danny's deli on Venice Beach Boardwalk]

Danny's Deli

23 Windward Ave
Venice
Phone 310.566.5610

Danny's is located in what originally was the St Marks Hotel. The last iteration of this space was the St Mark's Jazz club. Oh, I should mention Ryan the bartender who showed us a great wine selection and explained how the owners also own the Canal Club and James Beach.

[restaurant in Venice Beach, CA]

C&O Trattoria

31 Washington Blvd
Marina del Rey
310.823.9491
Extemely popular with the locals, you will wait for a table but it's worth it. It might be so popular because when they bring a jug of wine to the table they trust you to keep track of what you drink. Sort of a Italian Coccina atmosphere with Pasta, seafood and steaks in huge portions, and really garlicy rolls. Takeout and delivery also. Block inland from the Venice Pier.

[Baja Cantina restaurant in Venice Beach, CA]

Baja Cantina

311 Washington Blvd
Marina del Rey
Phone: 310.821.2252
Old time classic Mexican food and Margaritas just a couple of blocks inland from the Venice Pier. Mexican food is the order of the day with fresh tortillas made on the premises. A great bar scene on the outdoor patio as well. My favorite has always been the "40 miles of bad road" burrito

[restaurant in Venice Beach, CA]

Killer Shrimp

523 Washington Blvd
Marina del Rey
Phone: 310.578.2293
A little tucked away gem. Killer Shrimp's name pretty much says it all. They serve shrimp with broth and bread exclusively. Get it to go and enjoy it on the beach. A slight walk to Washington and Via Marina.

[restaurant in Venice Beach, CA]

On the Waterfront/ Whaler

205 Ocean Front Walk
Venice
Phone: 310.392.0322
Website
Good bar scene upstairs with the standard food fare. Great place to catch sports events at the south end of the Boardwalk because you can watch from the sidewalk through the huge opening windows if the place is full.

[restaurant in Venice Beach, CA]

Baby Blues BBQ

444 Lincoln Blvd
Venice
Phone: 310.396.7675
This is the place for bar-b-que. You'll have to go to the Carolinas to get better pulled pork, no lie! They open late, 11:30 am during the week and noon on Sundays. Try the Porno sauce if you like the authentic vinegar type BBq sauce.

[restaurant in Venice Beach, CA]

Hinano's Cafe

15 Washington Blvd
Venice
Phone: 310.822.3902
Really more of a bar than a cafe, but that doesn't mean the foods no good. There are people I know who will drive 150 miles for a Hinano burger and I personally find the Chili cheese dog the best priced hangover cure I've ver had. In the 70's Hinanos was know as a biker bar, today it's still not for the suit and tie crowd.Just 2 blocks from the Venice pier.

[Hama Sushi restaurant in Venice Beach, CA]

Hama Sushi

213 Windward Ave
Venice
Phone: 310.396.8783
On the Venice circle straight down Windward, this is the place for sushi and sashimi. Reservations suggested as it can get crowded. Another restaurant that has been in business for about 20 years in the same location.

[restaurant in Venice Beach, CA]

Chaya Venice

110 Navy Street
Venice
Phone: 310.396.1179
Chaya Venice has become the premier gathering spot for local artists, musicians, and movie industry moguls on Main Street for years. They call their fare La Nouvelle Cuisine Franco-Japanese and it's truly wonderful.

[restaurant in Venice Beach, CA]

Buffalo Wings -The Wings

1 Washington Blvd
Venice
Great place to grab an affordable, fast and messy gob of food.

Venice Beach: The People Watching Capital Of Southern California
The beach experience isn't always just about sun and sand. One of the most enjoyable parts of any time spent at the beach is checking out everything and everyone around you. At most beaches, that means skimpy bikinis and the odd kite-flying youngster. At Venice Beach in Los Angeles, it's a different story entirely...
